The National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund released the following statement congratulating Joe Biden on winning the 2020 presidential election.

“Joe Biden is the president our country needs,” said Mara Keisling, executive director of NCTE and the NCTE Action Fund. “The National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund was proud to endorse Biden during his campaign, and look forward to working with a new Biden administration to improve the lives of transgender people. Joe Biden has demonstrated his commitment and caring to the LGBTQ community throughout his career, and we know he will be a strong partner who treats everyone with the dignity and respect that they deserve. The voters have spoken, our legitimate democratic process has counted, and the will of the people is clear. Now we come together and move forward as a nation.”

The NCTE Action Fund endorsed Biden on May 5 after a series of Transform the White House forums with presidential candidates.

As part of its endorsement, the NCTE Action Fund cited Biden’s strong agenda for addressing issues facing transgender Americans and his record of accomplishments during the Obama-Biden administration.

“With Joe Biden, we know trans people will be involved, we will be seen, and we will not be erased,” Keisling said at the time.

NCTE will work with the Biden administration on two broad primary goals: ending discrimination against trans people and ending the epidemic of violence against trans people, especially Black and Latina transgender women. Read more about NCTE’s priorities for the new administration aquí.
